This Week in Effect - 2025-05-30
Hi Effecters!
Welcome back to This Week In Effect (TWIE) - your weekly update of the latest developments in the Effect community and ecosystem.
Effect is a powerful TypeScript library that helps developers create complex, synchronous, and asynchronous programs. One key feature that sets Effect apart is how it leverages structured concurrency to provide features such as async cancellation and safe resource management, making it easier to build robust, scalable, and efficient programs.
To get started, below you’ll find links to our documentation as well as our guide for installing Effect. Enjoy!

This week, we published talks by David Golightly and Victor Korzunin.
David Golightly shared how he built On Call, MasterClass’ real-time AI voice chat, using Effect, focusing on Cortex, the orchestration layer, and how Effect helped with error handling, structured streaming, and observability in a complex async architecture.
In his post-conference interview, David shared the reasons he decided to build MasterClass’ AI voice chat with Effect.
"The spaghetti code really turns into something that's just very linear and clean, and it really promotes excellent software architecture." David Golightly shares how Effect powers a real-time AI voice chat system at @masterclass
Victor Korzunin talked about Effect for AWS Lambda, its integration, benefits, and future prospects to make serverless programming more efficient.
